Abstract
Introduction/Objective: Implementation of general practitioners' (GPs) attitude in using evidence-based indications for prevention of cardiovascular (CVD) is a basic need for health systems. Within the framework of an integrated activity between community physicians, university researchers and GPs in a district of the metropolitan area of Naples, a research-intervention project has been initiated in order to: a) identify GPS attitudes in using evidence-based indication for prevention of CVD; b) build up an effective communication methodology between the components of the integrated action; c) optimally transfer all the necessary and safe indications to the community.

Methods: In order to accomplish with the objective in a), an assisted interview to all GPs has been carried out.

Results: The summarised results indicate a poor implementation of the major knowledge and action for prevention of CVD. Among the results: almost 35% of GPs neglect the control of serum cholesterol in their adult panel patients, about 50% do not indicate diet recommendations to control non-optimal CHOL and blood pressure, 38% smoke and half of them smoke in the presence of patients.

Discussion: The dramatic conclusion is that GPs underscore the knowledge and action for CVD prevention. Action to implement evidence-based procedures is urgently needed in this Neapolitan area. The second and third objectives are major tasks for the community in the very near future.
