Abstract
Objectives: To demonstrate how authors and editors can benefit from the new Cochrane Information Management System (IMS) when authoring and editing Cochrane reviews.

Description: Between June 2005 and May 2006, the new IMS will gradually be rolled out to the editorial bases of Cochrane Review Groups (CRGs) and replace the software they use today when preparing and submitting a CRG's module of protocols, reviews and information about the Group for publication in The Cochrane Library. The IMS will streamline the processes involved in the production of Cochrane reviews. Benefits include avoidance of duplication of data; centralised back-up and archiving of reviews and other documents; version control: a check-in/check-out system that ensures that authors, editors, and CRG staff are always working with the latest version of a RevMan file; the ability to track reviews during their preparation and maintenance; and the automation of some administrative and editorial tasks.

At the workshop, review authors and editors of CRGs will learn about how they can benefit from using the new IMS. There will also be a brief summary of new features in RevMan 5, which is scheduled for release in the middle of 2006. More information about the workshop will be available on www.cc-ims.net.

Target audience: Review authors and editors, who are involved in the review production process although people who simply wish to learn about the new IMS are also welcome.

Style: Demonstration and training workshop
