How Wiley have developed media coverage of Cochrane Library reviews within the international press

Abstract
Background: Part of the marketing strategy for The Cochrane Library is an ongoing international publicity campaign. It is important to measure the success of this strategy to ensure it fulfils identified criteria.

Objectives: This poster will provide evidence on how effective Wiley's publicity strategy has been in gaining column inches for Cochrane in the international scientific and popular press.

Methods: The media coverage for reviews from The Cochrane Library have increased over the last few issues. These additional column inches have had an effect on usage of The Cochrane Library through Wiley InterScience and have helped raise the world-wide profile of The Library. This poster presentation will provide details on how Wiley identifies possible reviews for publicity activity, the process of publicity release dissemination, the media coverage we have achieved and the resulting usage statistics.

Results: Recent usage statistics for The Cochrane Library on Wiley InterScience has shown that eight top accessed reviews have received international press coverage.

Conclusions: International press coverage can help develop the usage of selected reviews and thus improve the international profile of the Library, its review groups and The Cochrane Collaboration.
