Abstract
Objectives: The workshop will provide qualitative researchers with an opportunity to explore methods for synthesising qualitative data and apply techniques in practice. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will:
1. Be familiar with different methods for synthesising qualitative data
2. Have some understanding of when to use particular techniques
3. Decide on an appropriate method for a specific context

Description: Qualitative research is increasingly being synthesised within a stand-alone qualitative systematic review, to explain the outcomes of quantitative systematic reviews of effectiveness, or as part of a mixed method systematic review.
The facilitators of this workshop will share their and other researchers' experience and techniques of synthesising qualitative research in different contexts. In particular, the workshop will concentrate on two techniques: meta ethnography and narrative synthesis.
The workshop will include a presentation on methodological work to synthesise qualitative data and opportunities to apply techniques across a sample of qualitative studies provided by the facilitators.

Target audience: Review authors interested in the synthesis of qualitative research or those undertaking a mixed method or qualitative systematic review.

Style: Training workshop
