Abstract
resources for a knowledge broker position. Objectives: To develop ‘push’, ‘pull’ and ‘exchange’ activities to improve the dissemination and use of Cochrane reviews in Canada by health professionals, managers and patients. Methods: Centre staff met with each affiliate group to make a presentation about Cochrane and engage in discussions about activities and tools that could increase the understanding and use of systematic reviews to their members. Patient groups have also been contacted with similar discussions and goals. Knowledge transfer plans outlining planned activities were developed from discussions with the knowledge broker and the organization. Results: Push activities include new newsletters, an RSS feed, agreements with journal editors and Cochrane Corners on websites to disseminate digests of reviews to stakeholder members. Pull activities include making online searchable databases of selected systematic reviews available to policy makers, and targeted education and training activities to develop the capacity to use reviews. Exchange activities include identifying needs about priority research topics, education and training activities and appropriate methods of communication. The Centre is developing a series of modules for knowledge utilization workshops. Additional affiliate partnerships have been developed. Conclusions: As a result of nearly two years of working with affiliate groups and other organisations, new tailored communication products and training activities have been developed as well as new partnerships. Formal and informal measurements are being developed to evaluate the impact of this work.
