Abstract
Background: Evidence-based medicine has been introduced to China for more than ten years. With the rapid dissemination and wide application of the principles and methods of evidence-based medicine, more than 2000 systematic reviews and meta-analyses have been published in Chinese medical journals, but few of them are known abroad. Objectives: To introduce the development of best evidence and evidence-based practice in China to the whole world, and strengthen international communication among EBM researchers and systematic reviewers. Methods: An English language online EBM journal will be launched by the Chinese Cochrane Centre jointly with Wiley-Blackwell. Results: The Journal of Evidence based Medicine (JEBM) was successfully established. It will be published four times a year and is scheduled to launch its first issue in July 2008. Professor Li You-ping, the Director of the Chinese Cochrane Center and Professor Mike Clarke, the Director of the UK Cochrane Center, were invited to serve as co-editors-in-chief, and more than 100 top experts in the field of EBM as the members of the editorial board. JEBM aims to present the newest research results and promote the international understanding and development of evidence-based decision making, research, practice and education. The columns will include systematic review, clinical trial and register, methodology, policy-making and management, etc. Conclusions: JEBM is the first English-language journal on EBM in China. We are sure that more and more Chinese high quality research will be introduced into the international community and more and more researchers from other countries will be involved in the Chinese EBM movement.
