Abstract
Objectives:
This workshop aims to give participants practice in writing structured abstracts for systematic reviews. It is aimed primarily at review authors finishing their first review, and those who have found writing the abstract for reviews difficult. It is also suited to editors who assist authors with writing abstracts.
Description:
The workshop will present and discuss recent developments of standards around abstracts, including the new MECIR standards from The Cochrane Collaboration, and the PRISMA for Abstracts (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) checklist. Participants will use these to write two abstracts for real systematic reviews. One abstract will be for a review with multiple meta-analyses, and the other for a review where meta-analysis was not appropriate (a narrative review). There will be time for discussion of the difficulties of writing abstracts, and to answer participants’ questions. The two reviews will be available to participants prior to the workshop to enable them time to read and understand the results before writing the abstracts at the workshop.
