Abstract
Objectives:
To apply Screening and Diagnostic Tests Methods Group (SDTMG) draft guidance to a selection of published diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) reviews (with permission of the authors). To identify novel approaches to DTA review plain language summaries (PLS) and areas for improvement of the existing guidance.

Description:
The PLS is arguably the most visible and widely read part of a Cochrane review. There is evidence that the application of DTA review evidence is problematic for the public, healthcare professionals and policy makers. The implication is that PLS for DTA reviews need to be accessible to a more diverse audience. The SDTMG are in the process of developing PLS guidance for DTA reviews. Key differences between DTA and intervention reviews (such as the components of the review question and indirectness of the impact of a diagnostic test on patient outcomes) suggest the need for specific guidance in writing PLS for DTA reviews. We will provide existing PLS guidance in advance of and during the workshop. At the beginning of the workshop, we will introduce participants to DTA question components and different metrics for expressing the accuracy of a test. Participants will then be supported in developing PLS for two published DTA reviews before discussing these with the full group. We will provide feedback on the PLS and use the results of the workshop to inform the further development of PLS for DTA reviews.
