Abstract
Objectives:
- To outline basic principles for effective writing.
- To learn how to enhance the process of writing.
- To practice effective writing skills.
Description:
This workshop will be useful to any Cochrane author, academic researcher, or individual writing newsletters or other articles.
Methods are the glue of the Cochrane Collaboration, but have sometimes led us to neglect our writing style. Our perceived need to demonstrate that we are thorough sometimes leads us to write reviews that are unreadable. Yet Cochrane Reviews are about summarizing the literature and explaining the findings in plain, understandable English.
This workshop will outline basics of plain writing, and give participants examples to work through to demonstrate the principles. The facilitators include experienced senior editors with extensive scientific, editorial, and writing experience within and outside Cochrane.
