Abstract
Objectives:
In this workshop participants will learn how to:
- identify determinants of weak (or conditional) recommendations in guidelines and learn how they often require shared decision-making (SDM) in clinical practice;
- learn about the semi-automated production of decision aids (DA) from evidence summaries/systematic reviews, to be used at the point-of-care using guideline development tools; and
- use and explore real DA for the clinical encounter produced on an online guideline authoring and publication platform (www.magicapp.org).
Description:
The workshop will open with an interactive discussion of the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) system in the context of evidence summaries, guidelines with strong and weak recommendations, and conditions that warrant SDM.
We will then present our framework and methods for the semi-automated, generic production of multi-layered DA from evidence summaries created from systematic reviews, in the context of GRADE guidelines.
Finally, the bulk of the workshop will be small group role-playing sessions where participants are invited to explore interactive DA on computer tablets, acting as providers and patients in clinical encounters. Note: this workshop will not be held in a computer lab. Participants may wish to bring their own tablets or laptops to enable hands-on participation.
