Abstract
Objectives:
Preparing Cochrane Reviews that address public health questions of greatest relevance to users of evidence can present many methodological challenges. The Cochrane Public Health Group (CPHG) has been consulting review authors and evidence users in the UK to identify the main barriers to production and use of systematic reviews in public health. This workshop aims to: generate further discussion of the main barriers already identified within the UK; identify areas of resonance in other countries; develop ideas that can facilitate improved production of rigorous reviews that are useful.
Description:
A summary of the work being done by CPHG in the UK will be presented (15 min). The remainder of the workshop will be devoted to structured interactive discussion among participants and feedback. Participants will be asked to participate in small group discussions to share their views and experiences of the main barriers to the production and use of systematic reviews for public health This will include consideration of methodological challenges, user engagement, resource constraints, and capacity among authors and CPHG, and other issues as they emerge. Attendees will also be invited to offer suggestions on how to address the challenges identified. The workshop will conclude with a summary and confirmation of the main points raised. Notes and feedback from the workshop will be used to enhance the consultative work being carried out by CPHG.
