Abstract
Objectives: To provide an introduction of how to become involved with Cochrane as a volunteer translator.
Description: Participants will receive an overview of our ongoing translation activities, the content they can translate as volunteers, how much time it would take, the type of skills that are useful, and the benefits they would gain from it.
We will then do a practical translation activity, using a Cochrane plain language summary as an example. The aim will be to explain different approaches and things to consider when translating a Cochrane summary in order to achieve a good result.
Finally, participants will be invited to work in small, moderated groups of mixed language backgrounds to discuss one of the following areas with guided task sheets.
- What would help and encourage you and other volunteers to contribute translations on a regular and long-term basis?
- How would you like to exchange experiences/communicate with other translators? For what purpose? Is it necessary?
- What is a 'good' translation? What tools or processes can help ensure that our translations are good?
