Abstract
Objectives: To gain hands-on experience suggesting outcomes that should be examined in Cochrane Reviews.
Description: Consumers are asked to participate in the systematic review process by contributing to priority setting, commenting on topics as they are refined, and suggesting outcomes important to patients and their caregivers. In this workshop, we will examine outcomes, specifically patient-centered outcomes, used in Cochrane Reviews pertaining to the workshop participants’ interests. We will describe outcomes that should be included in those reviews, discuss how outcomes should be specified, and examine how missing outcomes such as pain and quality of life could be included. We will also discuss sources that could be used to identify relevant outcomes for Cochrane Reviews.
We will invite all enrolled participants to indicate their review group(s) of interest and will prepare a list of outcomes used by each group ahead of the workshop. At the workshop, we will:
1. provide an overview of outcomes and patient-centered outcomes;
2. break into workgroups to discuss and propose outcomes; and
3. report the outcomes that each group proposed back to the larger group.
We also encourage all attendees to complete the online course, Understanding Evidence-based Healthcare: A Foundation for Action prior to the workshop: (http://us.cochrane.org/understanding-evidence-based-healthcare-foundation-action).
