Abstract
Objectives: To introduce the iEtD framework through a hands-on, web-based session using real evidence summaries (based on Cochrane Reviews) to make real decisions.
Description: The GRADE Working Group's DECIDE project (http://www.decide-collaboration.eu) aims to improve the way research evidence is used in health decision-making, especially linked to guidelines. The iEtD framework (http://ietd.epistemonikos.org/) is a systematic, transparent and flexible approach to support guideline panels and decision-makers to move from evidence to decisions (or recommendations) concerning treatment, coverage or policy. It includes: 1) key criteria to consider; 2) recording of judgements by panel members concerning each criterion; 3) presentation of evidence to inform judgements; and 4) conclusions based on an overall judgement across all criteria. The framework helps to ensure that all important factors are considered, enables structured discussions, makes it easier to identify disagreements, and provides transparency.
The workshop will take a hands-on approach to introduce the iEtD, discuss implications for Cochrane Reviews, how they are used in iEtDs, and how they can be made more useful for guideline developers and decision-makers. The interactive session will use real examples of evidence summaries throughout the workshop to facilitate discussion. Participants should bring along a laptop/iPad.
