Abstract
Background: Systematic reviews are regarded as a high level of evidence. Title and abstract screening is the most important process in the preparation of systematic reviews; it is a time-consuming process that requires intensive work.
Objectives: We performed a study assessment of titles and abstracts and decided trial’s type with Korean medicine intervention.
Methods:This study involved systematic searches of eleven Korean medical databases and two journals related to clinical research up to December 2014. Three independent reviewers assessed each article’s title and abstract. After first screening, articles with same decisions among reviewers were excluded. Extra articles were evaluated where decisions among reviewers were different. A decision on each article’s final research type was made by three reviewers and the arbiter.
Results: A total of 259 studies were included. The reviewers did not agree on 96 of these studies’ types and for four studies it was impossible to make a decision for research type after the title and abstract screening process.
Conclusions: Most studies did not have a title that included proper information about the research type. There was insufficient information about the articles in the titles, but this is necessary in order to make report properly and follow reporting guidelines.
