Abstract
Objectives: To gain hands-on experience suggesting patient-centered outcomes that should be examined in Cochrane Reviews.

Description: Systematic reviews must be useful to consumers, clinicians, and other stakeholders. To facilitate partnerships with consumers, Review Groups ask consumer representatives to participate in the systematic review process by contributing to priority setting, commenting on topics as they are developed and refined, and suggesting outcomes that are important to patients and their caregivers. In this workshop, we will discuss how research questions are developed, and how outcomes - specifically patient-centered outcomes - are critical to research questions. Participants will consider currently used outcome measures, discuss how outcomes should be specified, and suggest missing outcomes such as pain and quality of life that could be included. Methods for identifying relevant outcomes will also be proposed.

At the workshop, we will:
1. provide an overview of outcomes, including patient-centered outcomes;
2. assign participants a 'real world' research question and currently used outcomes;
3. break into groups to develop outcomes addressing the assigned questions; and
4. discuss as a larger group the outcomes that each group proposed and their rationale.

Participants are encouraged to complete the online course, 'Understanding Evidence-based Healthcare: A Foundation for Action' (http://bit.ly/1VzLVZ2) prior to the workshop.
