Abstract
Objectives:
- To identify the needs of Cochrane Review Groups (CRGs) for consumer engagement in the systematic review process: from priority setting to research uptake.
- To review which needs can be responded to by the Cochrane Consumer Network.
- To identify external partners who can provide a consumer contribution in areas or activities that the Cochrane Consumer Network cannot take up.

Description: Many CRGs and systematic reviews would benefit from a consumer perspective. Consumers can help identify priority research questions; contextualise systematic review results; and maintain relations with the potential beneficiaries of the results (patient and consumer groups; policy makers; health professionals). Some CRGs are already active in this area and have good connections with consumer groups and organisations. Others are willing to develop relationships with patient and consumer organisations, but don’t know where to start, and what activities to prioritize. This workshop will help CRGs in reviewing their needs, and the support that can be provided by the Cochrane Consumer Network to respond to these needs. The workshop will then continue to explore which external partners and partnerships could be developed by the CRGs, Cochrane and the Cochrane Consumer Network to strengthen the contribution of consumers in Cochrane Systematic Reviews.
