Abstract
Objectives:Learning Objectives: in the context of Summary of findings tables in Cochrane reviews, participants will be able to
1. Describe the principles of cultural equivalence in pooling PRO data from global clinical trials used in Cochrane Reviews; and
2. List and choose among the different alternatives for aggregating across different PRO instruments measuring the same construct as presented in summary of findings tables in Cochrane reviews

This workshop will use interactive lectures and small group discussion to address the challenges and potential solutions in analyzing and making patient-reported outcome readily understandable to the audience of Cochrane reviews. In the first part of the workshop, we will cover challenges in using PRO instruments administered in different languages, including approaches to evaluating cultural equivalence and pooling results from different language versions.

A second major topic will be challenges in analyzing and in particular in interpreting magnitude of effect (are differences trivial, small but important, or large). In this part of the workshop we will introduce approaches to aggregating across different instruments measuring the same construct including the standardized mean difference (the most commonly used approach) and more satisfactory alternatives. Some of these alternatives are based on the concept of the minimal important difference (the smallest difference that would motivate a patient
