Abstract
Background:Since it appeared in 1990 evidence-based medicine quickly penetrated into other subjects, and people established some evidence-based social science organisations such as the Campbell collaboration network and 3ie.However, evidence-based social science in China faced challenges including unclear conception, lack of evidence and lack of extension. How to offer a highly efficient wide range of evidence for practitioners and a platform to exchange idea is very important.
Objectives:To develop Chinese Evidence-Based Social Science Database (ESSD) which combines high efficient wide range of evidences and evidence-based research with evidence-based decision making and evidence-based practice.
Methods:We focus on the following aspects in social: evidence-based social work, evidence-based management, evidence-based education, evidence-based crime and evidence-based environment. Databases such as the Cochrane Library, Campbell Library, Pubmed, SSCI, PsychINFO, CBM, Wan fang Data, VIP and CNKI were searched for the studies from inception to 2015 October. Reviewers independently screened literature using abstracts, full-text. According to the content and function of the site, we design a web interface and site. Conduct methodology training of evidence-based Social Science and develop projects with other institutions.
Results:Our search identified a total of 3114 citations, 725 items in Chinese and 2389 items in English. After the literature was screened, there was 874 items, uploading to site. ESSD consists of six core module, evidence-based social work, evidence-based crime, evidence-based management, evidence-based education and evidence-based environment. ESSD not only provides high quality evidence in social science, but also provides project content and methodology in all core modules.
Conclusions:ESSD is the first summary database to introduce evidence-based social science in China which devotes to provide evidence to support the application of evidence-based concepts and methods in the social sciences. It will play a more and more important role in the development of evidence-based social science in China.
