Abstract
Background: Knowledge Translation (KT) has always been one of the core of activities of Cochrane, and has recently been boosted by Strategy to 2020, creating new insights but also challenges for Review Groups (CRGs) and the Cochrane community. One of the challenges is constructive engagement between CRGs and Fields to avoid duplication of efforts and promote adequate representation of all relevant stakeholders and audiences (S&A) that are Cochrane end-users.
On one hand, all CRGs have S&A for whom KT activities need to be tailored, including (but not limited to) prioritization. On the other, Fields have S&A who may be different from those of the CRGs, but Fields are primarily KT implementers and not review producers. Consequently, Fields must rely on CRGs to produce reviews relevant to their S&A. To adequately meet the needs of Cochrane end-users, support the necessary diversity in review production, and avoid duplication of efforts, engagement between Fields and CRGs is crucial. In this process, the new Networks are highly relevant, serving the purpose of improving collaboration among CRGs to enhance standards and consistency in review production, but also to improve KT implementation. While this can serve Fields well, whose S&A align almost entirely with one Network (e.g. First Aid, Pre-Hospital & Emergency Care), ensuring representation of S&A could be difficult for Fields that need to connect with multiple Networks (e.g. Nursing Care, Neurological Sciences, Nutrition, Rehabilitation), and this may create new silos.
Objectives: for each participant Network/CRG and Field:
- improve and share knowledge about relevant S&A;
- define a list of desirable KT activities;
- cross-reference S&A to the KT activities.
We will also aim to:
- identify methods to share KT activities between Networks/CRGs and Fields;
- identify facilitators and barriers to include the diverse Fields' S&A into the work of Networks/CRGs.
Description: before the Workshop, Fields will produce a list of their S&A to be shared with the participants, cross-linked to the KT activities they produce for each one. The workshop will include:
- introduction;
- participants will be given some time to prepare individually (with the help of facilitators) a list of S&A for their Network/CRG;
- facilitators will present a set of KT activities sharing their experiences and the relevant S&A for which each KT activity is meant.
We will divide participants into groups and with the help of facilitators they will:
- list KT activities that their Network/CRG actually performs, or would like to/should perform, considering relevant S&A;
- cross-link KT activities with S&A;
- produce a list of facilitators and barriers to include the diverse Fields' S&A into the work of Networks/CRGs;
- finally, groups will report their results and will prepare a collective table of links between the different participant Networks/CRGs and Fields (S&A, KT activities, barriers, facilitators).
