Abstract
Objective: To discuss current challenges common to the scientific journals dealing with evidence synthesis products.
Description: This session will be a discussion of selected challenges, potential solutions, and further needs regarding key issues that journals and editors in the field of evidence synthesis products are currently tackling. These discussions will help in shaping the scientific strategies of all the partner agencies and encourage collaboration across the journals. The presenters are the editors of journals from the 4 GES partner organizations and 1 invited speaker from a high-impact medical journal.
Our special session will cover the following 3 GES-prioritized topics: Research integrity making evidence accessible; Power of synergy in evidence synthesis and synthesis products; and Advocating for greater evidence communication and use of evidence.
The specific topics we will develop are:
-Living synthesis and living guidelines: publication and dissemination (Living synthesis and recommendations had a huge expansion during COVID-19. It's time to discuss their future post-pandemic)
-Equity in evidence synthesis products: production and publication (Considering equity, diversity, and inclusion [EDI] on academia and research is a must. We aim to discuss the challenges and next steps)
-Research integrity issues in evidence synthesis (Several threats to science such as predatory publication and plagiarisms require a special lens in the evidence synthesis world)
-Reducing research waste (Reducing duplication of efforts in evidence synthesis and the role of journals in a world where multiple groups work on similar topics)
-Artificial intelligence (Opportunities and pitfalls in the development of evidence products to the preparation of manuscripts and in the peer-review process)
Activities/Interaction:
Brief presentation of 1 key topic by one of the editors and plenary session with Q&A and discussion
Plans
-Two co-chairs will open the session
-Each editor will present one of the topics (max 30 min)
-Co-chairs will do follow-up questions that will be commented on and answered by each one of the presenters. Each speaker will have the opportunity to briefly comment on each prioritized topic (30 min)
-Chairs will select and read questions from the public to be answered by the speakers (30 min)
