Abstract
Background: Cochrane Russia and Cochrane China work together since 2023 on the basis of a collaboration agreement between their host institutions - Russian Medical Academy for Continuing Professional Education “RMANPO” (Moscow, Russia) and the Institute of Health Data Sciences Lanzhou University (Lanzhou, China), a globally recognised pioneer in guideline assessment and reporting tool development.
Objectives: To develop an effective collaboration model in research and implementation of new tools of clinical practice guideline assessment and development.
Methods: We established regular brainstorming sessions between Cochrane Russia and Cochrane China both virtually and face-to-face, as well as consultations within Cochrane Russia’s host institution with active involvement of its leadership.
Results: In May 2023 we hosted our first joint educational event at RMANPO, the workshop «Evidence-Based Clinical Guidelines for Therapeutics Safety». Colleagues from Cochrane China presented an overview of the RIGHT (Reporting Items for practice Guidelines in Healthcare Statement), its extensions, and their implementation in health care practice. We discussed the use of Cochrane evidence in development of clinical guidelines, deprescribing strategies, and training initiatives of Cochrane Russia.
Cochrane Russia translated the RIGHT Statement and Checklist into Russian, using automated tools and human editing with back-translation for the accuracy of the translation. The Russian translation of RIGHT was published in the Kazan Medical Journal in open-access mode. Cochrane Russia translated the survey on the ease of understanding of the new RIGHT extension addressing conflicts of interest and funding, RIGHT-COI&F. The survey was sent to target users and stakeholders in Russia and we received 87 responses.
In September 2023 we collaboratively participated in the event «Big Data Medicine» organized by the Association of Sino-Russian Medical Universities (ASRMU) with the presentation «Integrating Cochrane evidence and big data sources into developing transparent and clear clinical practice recommendations: the RIGHT tool - an example of successful Chinese-Russian collaboration».
Conclusions: The first year of active cooperation has proven our collaborative model a success. Further development will build on harnessing the power of synergy in guideline assessment and development. Cochrane Russia researchers assessed two sets of Russian clinical practice guidelines using RIGHT, results to be presented at upcoming training events.
