Abstract
"This is a project within a programme of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland “Student Science Clubs Develop Innovations”.
The goal of the project is to engage students and increase their knowledge and awareness of the knowledge translation process into practice (knowledge translation) as a scientific activity (implementation science).
One of the activities is to prepare blogs for the Students 4 Best Evidence portal, S4BE (https://s4be.cochrane.org/). S4BE is a high-level international initiative (supported by Cochrane), with the main goal of promoting and disseminating the understanding of scientific methods and results of reliable, and useful forprofessional practice, research among students through the creation of research studies and presentations of methodological papers by students. S4BE is made up of students from all over the world, but this is the first such activity from Poland. We will focus on rehabilitation/physiotherapy-related topics when preparing our blogs.
Our other activities in the project are training in the basics of conducting scientific research following the principles of EBP. Sixteen of us have completed a course of workshops and lectures conducted by specialists from Cochrane Poland on the basics of systematic reviewing, how to assess the methodological quality of systematic reviews, and how to conduct a meta-analysis.
With support from Cochrane Poland, we will also prepare translations of plain language summaries of Cochrane systematic reviews. We will choose 16 reviews from those included by WHO as the evidence-base for their Package of Interventions for Rehabilitation series.
We would like to present and share our ideas and reflections on how we are trying to immerse ourselves in the process of Evidence-based practice, from the perspectives of physiotherapy and medical students who are not prepared for such a challenge through our undergraduate study curricula. EBP/EBM is currently only incidentally presented in our course of study.
The project will finish in June 2024 so we will be ready with our messages for the Global Evidence Summit in September. We hope it will be of interest to others, especially for those facing barriers and obstacles in spreading the EBP culture."
