Abstract
Background: The growing trend of embracing rumors and misinformation within the scientific realm among the global population is often linked to perceived gaps in public knowledge. In light of this, it is crucial to implement health education initiatives through social media platforms. These efforts aim to raise awareness among the general public and healthcare professionals about the importance of sharing information rooted in scientific evidence, particularly concerning women's health and well-being.
Objectives: To improve health education endeavors to safeguard female sexual health and disseminate information on intimate healthcare and well-being via social media platforms.
Methods: The project comprised three phases: Phase I, "Content Creation," involved defining topics for various dissemination strategies. Phase II, "Development of Social Media Profiles," focused primarily on Instagram. Phase III, "Dissemination of Knowledge," entailed crafting content for sharing on Instagram.
Results: A wide range of updated content related to women's health and well-being was posted on the project's official Instagram page, @Gynecocare. Twenty-one topics were covered, including the menstrual cycle, contraceptives, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), gynecological and breast neoplasms, among others. Additionally, thirteen videos/reels created by educators and students were shared, addressing various aspects of women's health. The content reached 1,693 accounts, with an average of 531 views and interactions per account. The target audience primarily comprised women (86.4%) compared to men (13.5%). (Figure 1)
Conclusions: Gynecocare emerges as a project of significant relevance to women's health, fostering extensive engagement with society. It establishes itself as a reliable scientific dissemination platform, grounded in evidence-based information. Moreover, it facilitates connections between the University and society while addressing social disparities in access to ethical and reliable information.
