Abstract
"Background: The Public Consultation (PC) of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) allows capturing patients' values and preferences, as well as considerations regarding technologies and implementation aspects in the evaluation process by the National Committee for Health Technology Incorporation (Conitec). Monitoring contributions and the profile of participants can help Conitec understand the dynamics of society's participation in the process and promote improvement strategies.
Objectives: To evaluate the profile of contributions and participants in PC on CPG in 2023.
Methods: Data from all PC in 2023 about CPG were collected. The characteristics of the participants and contributions were summarized in frequencies.
Results: In 2023, eighteen CPG were submitted to PC, of which 33.3% addressed the management of rare diseases, 38.9% on chronic non-communicable diseases and 27.8% on chronic communicable diseases. In total, 2346 contributions were received. One CPG received only 2 contributions and was related to the management of children exposed to HIV. On the other hand, the CPG that received the most contributions was on spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) types 1 and 2, with 1110 contributions. Most of the participations were from family members, friends, or patient caregivers (31.2%), followed by healthcare professional (29.6%) and interested in the topic (25.2%). The participation of companies, public institutions or pharmaceutical industry accounted for less than 5% of the contributions. Participating individuals identified themselves, in the majority, of white color/ethnicity (67.7%), aged between 25 and 39 years (51.5%) and residing in the south region of Brazil (62.8%). Social networks (37.9%) and friends, colleagues, or work professionals (33.4|%) were also the main sources of knowledge in the PC.
Conclusions: Although the profile of participants is similar in CP, the number of contributions varies between CPG, with rare diseases standing out from other topics.
