Abstract
Introduction: The 3rd International Symposium on Thrombolytic Therapy in Acute Ischemic Stroke was held in Japan on April 1994. Although many clinical trials have been or will be conducted on the theme, there has been no overall assessment. Japanese collaboration is really expected to achieve the aim.
Objective: To explore the possibility to retrieve clinical trials on the theme which have been published in Japanese medical journals using the Japan Centra Revuo Medicina (JCRM) database, and to assess the quality of selected articles.
Methods: Using the JCRM database provided as a CD-ROM to retrieve clinical trials. For the quality assessment, our check list (presented at Internal. Clin. Biostat. Conference, Cambridge, 1993) was applied.
Results: Straightforward retrieval using ischemic stroke and clinical trials yielded no selected articles. However, combination of a wide range of key words allowed us to find appropriate articles. It is partly because the inconsistency in giving key words. Quality of the selected articles was relatively low.
Discussion: Using the JCRM database could promote the international collaboration although there are some constraints such as language and low quality.
