Abstract
Background: One important aim of the Cochrane Collaboration is to disseminate the evidence. In developing counties with lack of knowledge of EBM like China, we attempted to develop strategies to create EBM culture.

Objective: To involve Chinese clinicians and health decision-makers with the concept of the evidence-based medicine and the recognition of its importance.
Methods: A dissemination proposal was developed by the Chinese Cochrane Center through presenting workshops or lectures on EBM nationwide whenever possible, organizing people to translate the evidence based on their needs and fields, disseminating EBM culture or evidence through our Center's newsletters and homepage as well as Chinese medical journals and newspapers.

Results: General Workshops and Lecture* Feb.1998 Nov.1998 July 1999* Nov. 1999 April 2000* People involved 33 83 145 197 2720 Provinces 9 10 15 16 11 Specialities 15 19 19 19 70 * Four issues of the newsletter were distributed in 1999. There were 100 copies in Mar., 250 in June, 400 in Sep. and 500 in Dec. It was five times increased in 1999. * There were 5 promotional articles published in the Chinese medical journals by ChiCC in 1998, while 35 articles published in 1999 and May 2000. * There were no specialities involved in translating SR in 1999, while 23 specialities got involved in the work in 2000 and over 100 SR abstracts have been translated.

Conclusion: To foster activities on EBM culture by the above strategies is the very important and essential step for us at the very beginning. It has created evidence-based culture in China.
