Abstract
"Background: Cochrane systematic reviews serve as a high-quality source of clinical evidence, but language and insufficient professional knowledge remain huge barriers for Chinese users. Therefore, we conducted a Cochrane Knowledge Translation (KT) and Dissemination Competition since 2021 to foster evidence dissemination and translation.
Objectives: To present and evaluate the implementation of the third competition in 2023 from different aspects of KT.
Methods: We analyzed the submissions received and Cochrane systematic reviews used for submission production. An online questionnaire survey was also conducted on participants to analyze their comments and needs during participation. Microsoft Excel and IBM SPSS (26.0) were employed to process and analyze the data.
Results:
1.The third competition included 6 main sessions (Figue1), as well as specific rules and procedures (Table1).
2.173 participants took part (Table2), with a total of 94 valid submissions received (80 text-graphic submissions and 14 short video submissions) in a total of 10 formats (Figure2).
3.Cochrane systematic reviews across 7 main themes were used 97 times in total by submissions (Table3A, Table3B), with 6 systematic reviews more often used by participants (Table4).
4.A total of 173 questionnaires were received, and “to further the study in Evidence-based Medicine (EBM)” is the most chosen reasons for competition participation (105,27.2%) (Figure3). The majority of both medical (88, 64.5%) and non-medical major (20, 62%) participants can understand the Chinese version of systematic reviews (Figure4). The most mentioned suggestion for the competition was to “increase competition impact” (Figure5A), and the most mentioned expectations for future evidence dissemination is to “disseminate through more social media platforms” (Figure5B).
Conclusions: The Cochrane evidence dissemination competition provided a valuable platform for participants to expel their creativity and deepen understanding of medical evidence, with submissions on various topics and formats received. In the future, increasing the competition impact to attract participants of more diverse background and disseminate the works through more social media platforms will help perfecting the competition.
