Abstract
"Background: In recent years, some medical institutions in China have set up “research advisory centers” to offer consulting for clinical medical staff and researchers. The scope of work of these groups covers research topics, research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
Objectives: To explore the operation method and practical effect of a research advisory center on the research efforts conducted in a hospital.
Methods: In February 2023, the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University set up a methodological research advisory center, consisting of a team of evidence-based medicine experts and guideline methodologists. The center helped to solve problems related to clinical study design, formulation and interpretation of guidelines and consensus statements, and preparation and interpretation of systematic reviews and meta-analyses that the staff were facing.
Results: As of December 2023, the methodological research advisory center has carried out a total of 14 research consultations, providing evidence-based methodological guidance to 28 staff members from 17 departments of the hospital. A survey conducted among the users of this service demonstrated a high level of satisfaction with the consultations.
Conclusions: The establishment of a methodological research advisory center can promote the diversity of perspectives contributing to research conducted in hospitals in China. By providing valuable evidence-based methodological support, such centers can improve the quality of the research that ultimately can help to improve the care of patients."
