Abstract
Objective: To understand the introduction rate of ARRIVE guidelines and/or GSPC lists in journals in the field of biomaterials, and the level of editor's understanding of these guidelines/lists. Method: Obtain journals in the field of biomaterials that have published animal experiments and are included in SCI, MEDLINE, CSCD, or CSTPCD. Download the latest version of the manuscript and extract information about the ARRIVE guide and/or GSPC checklist. A self-designed questionnaire was used to survey journals in the field of biomaterials, including their understanding of ARRIVE guidelines and GSPC lists, as well as the practical application of these lists by journal editors and reviewers.
Result: A total of 20 journals were included, 20 survey questionnaires were distributed, and 18 valid responses were collected, with a response rate of 90.0%. The survey results showed that none of the included journals included the ARRIVE guidelines and/or GSPC list, and the awareness rate of this guideline/list among journal editors in the field of biomaterials was only 13.1%. The proportion of those who know and those who do not know who require authors to follow the ARRIVE guidelines and/or GSPC list during the submission stage is 57.7% vs.2.9%, the proportion of editors and reviewers required to follow the ARRIVE guidelines and/or GSPC list during the journal editing and processing stage is 30.8% vs.3.5%, and the proportion of reviewers required to follow the ARRIVE guidelines and/or GSPC list during the expert review stage is 38.5% vs.3.5%.
Conclusion: Currently, the introduction rate of ARRIVE guidelines and/or GSPC lists in journals in the field of biomaterials is zero, and the awareness rate among journal editors and reviewers is relatively low, with less practical application in their work. Strongly recommend taking targeted measures for promotion and popularization to improve the quality of animal experiment reports
