Abstract
The Evidence Synthesis and Meta-Analysis in R Conference is a biannual online-only event aimed at bringing together an open and supportive community of practice focusing on making evidence synthesis more accessible, transparent and rigorous. Born out of the Evidence Synthesis Hackathon (www.eshackathon.org), ESMARConf began in 2021 as a space to build a network of software developers working in R to produce tools for systematic reviews and meta-analysis. It rapidly grew beyond this small community to attract a variety of different stakeholders, including people wanting to find tools to increase the efficiency of their evidence synthesis work, those wanting to use R for meta-analysis but unaware of existing systematic review coordinating bodies, and people wanting to learn how to conduct rigorous reviews with no knowledge of R. ESMARConf now caters to over 7,000 attendees per year, with almost 2,000 hours of watch time and almost 25,000 views. The conference focuses on providing training materials entirely free, but generates sufficient funds to cover minimal costs through voluntary registration fees. The content and audience is representative of researchers, policy-makers and students from across a vast diversity of disciplines. This poster introduces ESMARConf, its mission and content, and encourages the wider systematic review community to support its goals.
