Abstract
Background: Since the inception of Cochrane, many researchers around the world have contributed to Cochrane Reviews.

Objectives: To estimate the contribution of Indian healthcare researchers to Cochrane Reviews.

Methods: In ‎February ‎2018, we retrieved data from the Cochrane Archie database using the term 'India' in the country field with the advanced search option. We analysed the data for Indian contributors, including their location (state), primary Cochrane Group, year of joining and number of protocols/reviews published and withdrawn.

Results: There were 2245 contributors from India from to 29 states and union territories. Most authors contributed to the Membership Project Group (1184, 52.7%), followed by the Oral Health Group (57, 2.5%) and the Kidney and Transplant Group (55, 2.4%). The total numbers were: 286 published reviews, 98 protocols, 58 inactive and 51 withdrawn. Of the nine titles registered, six were active, one inactive and two withdrawn. A total of 193 reviews, 72 protocols and one vacant title were led by Indian contributors. Tamil Nadu state had the highest number of contributors (212; 9.4%), followed by New Delhi (195; 8.7%), Karnataka (132; 5.9%) and Maharashtra (94, 4.2%).

Conclusions: It has been observed that the Cochrane Membership Project and the national subscription to the Cochrane Library by the Indian Council of Medical Research have provided opportunities for authors to contribute to Cochrane. This in turn has increased the number of Cochrane Reviews by Indian authors.

Patient or healthcare consumer involvement: None.
