Abstract
We identified 33 barriers to successful updating of reviews, and nine strategies to facilitate the process.

Conclusions: Updating reviews involves much more than repeating the search and incorporating additional data. Authors have to consider new developments relating to the original question, methodology, standards and readability. Updating is often as timeconsuming as preparing a new review and can become more complex as a review group matures.
